How would you define health?

Satisfactory

Are there any health practices unique to your country?

Yes. Dhivehi beys.

How does your healthcare system work?

Through national insurance aasandha. And even the necessary treatments available only in Male.

Are you satisfied with your healthcare system?

No

If not, why?

No trust to the health care system. Simple tests and treatments not available in Maldives. Frequent misdiagnosis.

Do you have health insurance? If so, what does it cover?

Yes. I m covered by Allied. 90% coverage from private hospitals and clinics. It covers all basic treatments in Maldives and if referred, from selected countries abroad. Cosmetic procedures are not covered. There is a limit on surgeries.

Is healthcare easily accessible? What barriers to access exist?

Excess Demand. Certain specialities such as psychiatry or cardiology takes months to get an appointment. These specialty services not available in the islands.

What health problems are prevalent in your country?

Cancer, Special needs kids such as autism, down syndrome and heart disease.

Is it common for people to seek healthcare outside the country?

Yes

In regards to health, where do you feel your country excels? What needs improvement?

Everything needs improvement. Doctors, treatments, facilities and the whole administrative system.

If you could change something about health in your country, what would you change?

Fairness in Accesibility throughout Maldives.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding health in your country?

I feel I have said enough. Nothing more. Needs a lot of improvement. Poor services often lead to diagnosis of life threatning at later stages which are then uncurable. A stop needs to be brought to beg for funds for treatment abroad or in Maldives which has become the norm in Maldives though a national insurance scheme is in place.
